Hi people, if there is some one reading my review´s of course..!
Is there any one who like´s mind f*** games well i do especially when they make you have to interpret the visuals. Well a god example is "Yume Nikki".In order to play Yume Nikki, you'll have to to take your mind of reality. Nothing makes sense in this game. There is not a moment where something won't confuse you, or mainly disturb you.
read the manga if your interested http://mangadoom.com/Yume-Nikki/ |
"Yume
Nikki" means "Dream Diary" in Japanese (and thus the word can be
written as "夢日記 " although the title is normally in hiragana), and the game follows a young girl
named Madotsuki as she dreams. The goal is to seek out and acquire all 24
'Effects'.
The game
otherwise has no plot, and nearly the entire game is left up to speculation´s.
Madotsuki room or said the "real world " - if you what mire info one the game visit the wiki -http://yumenikki.wikia.com/wiki/Yume_Nikki_Wiki |
Madotsuki
as she appears in the Manga
|
WE play as
Madotsuki ( the word
"Madotsuki" means "window" (as in a box or envelope) or
"aperture.”) and of course ,it
may not even be her true name at all. It could be thought of as being a metaphor, fans speculate that she is young - anywhere from a young
child to an early teen - although arguments can be made for any age. But despite the
harmless appearance of our character, Madotsuki, the game is very, very dark and grim. It almost seems like the
creator threw a shroud of innocence on a truly unsettling creature. You won't feel scared at any point as
much as you will be disturbed. There are
many moments that will make you (as it made me) a little bit uncomfortable while playing. But the real creepy-factor in "Yume Nikki" comes from the dialogue or rather just like i said previously is it's visual game it has a lack therefor. Aside from the text that comes up during the beginning of the game, and the occasional boxes that pop up when you collect an effect, not a single word is displayed on-screen. None of the NPCs have anything to say, there are no text box descriptions for various objects; the game is completely dialogue-less. I almost ended up biting my own leg off just because i didn't know what to do, and I was wishing for a list, a memo or something until i found one of the first effects, the frog i walked on the dream world for over an hour, it was so painful but probably was because i was being stupid. The game is like when an author uses strong words to convey messages, the creator of "Yume Nikki" uses some strong and disturbing imagery and game play to convey the messages found in the game. Elements in
Madotsuki's dream world seem to hint at her mental or emotional state. Some
effects seem to show her unhappiness. The knife( one off the effects - that allows you to kill NPC´s ), in particular, appears to hint
at her misery. However, the player ultimately controls Madotsuki -- it is
unknown whether she would use the knife on her own self or not .
Since many
dreams are disturbing when shared, Madotsuki might just be a typical lucid
dreamer trying to find a release from her sadness by exploiting her dreams for
fun and self-discovery.
But still there are various fan theories to the game that may or may not be correct. Like so I m not going to tell them, it depends on you people to create your own theories after you have played .There's an unusual beauty to this game, and this is not a game for the softies, and most certainly not one for children (baby´s). Besides suffering from many issues like aimless wandering and lack of direction (like a nut job ), "Yume Nikki" is a title I highly recommend for anyone serious about games, art and other´s. "yume nikki" is also an inspiration for starter game makers ( like myself), that are also called "yume nikki" fan game ..hell i might even play the fan made sequel "yume 2ikki" and review it(http://yumenikkifg.wikia.com/wiki/Yume_Nikki_Fangames_Wiki - visit the wiki to see the upcoming fan games). And to that my verdict is :
6/10
that´s the score
